Ninebot MAX by Segway – can any scooter beat it?
Is Ninebot Max by Segway best electric scooter in the market now? To answer this question Ninebot MAX will be compared to these electric scooters*:
- Xiaomi M365 PRO (€430-600)
- Inokim Light Hero (€610-819)
- Zero 8 36V (€620-700)
- E-TWOW S2 Booster V (€670-1000)

Ninebot MAX by Segway established a landmark for an electric scooter market. As everybody around is getting the first batch of Ninebot MAX scooters, let’s check, does MAX is truly better, than any other scooter on a similar price range? Or is it a false king of the scooters?
The price range of Ninebot Max is from €519 to €720. So we will see how Ninebot Max is doing in comparison with cheaper (Xiaomi M365 PRO) and expensive electric scooters (E-Twow S2 Booster V and Speedway Mini 4 PRO).
E-TWOW S2 Booster V and Speedway Mini 4 PRO have the highest top speed – 45 km/h. Ninebot MAX and Zero 8 36V are in the second place, after them.
Have in a mind, that the top speed of electric scooters is limited to 25 km/h in most countries. And it is illegal to have an electric scooter with the top speed higher, than 25 km/h. So, if you do not want to break a law, you have to choose a scooter with a top speed of 25 km/h, or you have to limit your scooter top speed to this point. Ninebot MAX by Segway is a beast on travel range. It can go up to 65 km. Next electric scooter who can follow up Ninebot Max in this category is Speedway Mini 4 PRO, but it can go up to 50 km, so the range is 15 km less what Ninebot Max able to take it. On a third place, after Speedway Mini 4 PRO, is Xiaomi M365 PRO, whose range of travel is 45 km (only 5 km lesser than Speedway Mini 4 PRO).
Ninebot MAX can travel a long distance because it is turning kinetic energy into electric energy, this same feature is used in electric cars. When you braking or releasing the throttle, this kinetic energy is transformed into electricity.
E-TWOW S2 Booster V can withhold a maximum load of 125 kg, it is 25 kg more than Ninebot MAX and 5 kg more than Speedway Mini 4 PRO. So, if your weight is more than 100 kg, it is better to choose E-TWOW S2 Booster V or Speedway Mini 4 PRO than Ninebot MAX.
Weight of the scooter
The weight of the scooter is important to you if you have to carry a scooter a lot. Ninebot MAX is one of the heaviest electric scooters, so if its 18.7 kg is too heavy for you, consider E-TWOW S2 Booster V with a weight of 11. 2 kg as a better pick for you.
E-TWOW S2 Booster V and Speedway Mini 4 PRO have 150 W more than Ninebot MAX. Moreover, these scooters are lighter, than Ninebot MAX. So you will have better acceleration with them.
Although, have in a mind, that E-TWOW S2 Booster V and Speedway Mini 4 PRO have the smallest wheels. So they are more dangerous on a higher acceleration.
The charging time of the scooter is important because nobody has time for that. E-TWOW S2 Booster V and Speedway Mini 4 PRO can be charged in 3 hours. But it needs to be mentioned, that Speedway Mini 4 PRO needs a fast charger to do so and its cost is about €100.
Ninebot MAX has one of the longest charging time – 6 hours, only Xiaomi M365 PRO charges longer. However, Ninebot Max has a built-in charger, so there is no problem to charge it, anywhere you are located – at the office, at train or even at the restaurant.
Moreover, Ninebot MAX can take the longest travel distance in comparison with most of the electric scooters, so I doubt, that there will be a need to charge it often.
Most electric scooters have the same ability to climb a 20 % angle, as well as Ninebot MAX. Only one of these scooters can climb an angle of 25 % and it is E-TWOW S2 Booster V.
Wheels and tires
It is very important to an electric scooter to have large wheels and air-filled tires. Riding on them is safer and more comfortable – large air-filled tires make a great suspension and have superb adaptability to complex road conditions. For example, expensive premium scooters, like Dualtron Thunder, Dualtron Ultra (price €3000-3500) have large air-filled tires.
Ninebot MAX has the largest air-filled tires of these electric scooters. Ninebot MAX tires are 1.5″ larger than Xiaomi M365 PRO and Zero 8 36V tires and even 2.2″ larger than E-TWOW S2 Booster V tires. So with these large air-filled Ninebot MAX tires, you can easily overcome almost any small obstacle in your way.
The biggest downside of air-filled tires – their puncturing. But Ninebot MAX got covered it. It has self-healing tires. These tires are filled with sealant, when tires get punctured with a nail (less than 6mm in diameter), this sealant fills the holes. This way, there is no need to change a punctured tire.
It should be mentioned, although Speedway Mini 4 PRO, E-TWOW BOOSTER V and Zero 8 36V have no large air-filled tires, all these electric scooters have front and rear suspensions for a more comfortable ride.
In a nutshell
What are the most important features of electric scooters for commuting? First of all:
- a Travel range
- Comfortability of a ride
After that comes average speed and ability to climb a higher angle. Ninebot MAX owns the most important features for commuting, especially it is a beast on an ability to cover a long travel range. So you could fairly call Ninebot MAX king of commuting.
However, if you are looking for an electric scooter not only for commuting but for:
- an extreme, off-road riding
- and there is a need to carry a scooter a lot and 18.7 kg weight is too heavy for you
E-TWOW S2 Booster V (11.2 kg weight) or Speedway Mini 4 PRO (16.5 kg weight) maybe is a better pick for you. Take in mind, that you will have to spend €200-300 more on them, than on Ninebot MAX. Noteworthy, that for this difference – €300 you can get a new electric scooter – Xiaomi M365. Therefore for the price of the Speedway Mini 4 PRO, you can get a Ninebot MAX + Xiaomi M365 electric scooters.
